The most athletic side of climbing in a winter environment. Climbing on flows of water crystallized by frost into ever-changing shapes opens up a challenging and fascinating world. The technical evolution of mountaineers and equipment now allows for a great variety of situations and movements. But beware: this is not the winter variant of sport climbing; you must refine all your knowledge of the winter mountains to manage risks and grow technically. It is often a testing ground for technical progress on large glacial walls.
The first week of February will host the introductory stage to Ice Climbing. The aim of the stage is to get to know the equipment and learn progression and safety techniques on ice waterfalls.
The course is aimed at beginners in ice climbing who have at least some experience in rock climbing, the ability to overcome at least a level 4+/5 as a second on the rope and sufficient physical preparation equal to at least 3 hours of mountain hiking.
The number of students participating in the stage will be agreed with the High Mountain Alpine Guide.
This advanced icefall course is aimed at people who already have a good mountaineering background and wish to improve their technique and safety by tackling icefalls and goulottes.
Advanced progression techniques, building belays and anchors, bolting from below, the Abalakov technique, modern equipment, leading and abseiling will be the foundations of this advanced course.
By adapting the difficulties to the participants' abilities, climbs will be carried out on multi-pitch icefalls and characteristic mountain goulottes, allowing the use of the advanced techniques learned during the course.
The number of students participating in the course will be agreed with the High Mountain Alpine Guide.
The cost of the "Icefalls - advanced level" course includes:
