Courses and Workshops

Mountain Guides and Mid-Mountain Leaders are professionals who constantly update their skills and spend most of their time in the field. Educational and training activities are the best way to share this ongoing and in-depth technical journey. Rock, High Mountain, Safety and Self-Rescue, Ski Mountaineering, Hiking, Mountain Environment, Rope Work and Work in Exposed Sites, Canyoning. Our courses, training days, and technical seminars are aimed at the technical growth of all mountain enthusiasts. Technical workshops can also be organized on request for specific needs. Our group also maintains contacts among course participants in order to facilitate future activities.

Avalanche Self-Rescue - elements of snow science

The first snowfalls on the mountains spark excitement and the desire to go and touch the freshly fallen snow, we are ready! The equipment that was stored in the cellar at the end of the season is eagerly waiting to join us on our winter adventures.

However, this is also the most delicate moment, because at the beginning of the season we have forgotten the great danger of winter on the snow: AVALANCHES.

The first days are the most delicate and it doesn't matter if we are freeriders, ski mountaineers, or snowshoe hikers, anyone moving on snowy terrain should know how to assess the hidden dangers and, in case of being caught in an avalanche, in addition to having the proper equipment (transceiver-shovel-probe), should also know how to use it to rescue their companions.

Hike&Climb, in this two-day stage, will accompany you into the magical snowy world, where you will learn to observe the snowpack around us, to understand its characteristics and thus identify the critical points that can trigger avalanches.

We will experience firsthand in the field how to choose the right track both uphill and downhill by taking a real hiking trip—“little theory and lots of practice” is our slogan—to learn the most important thing: AVOIDING BEING CAUGHT IN AN AVALANCHE IS THE KEY!

And in case the worst happens, we must be prepared. So we will dedicate time to all the most important maneuvers to find, dig out, and provide first aid to a companion accidentally caught in an avalanche. Two intense and exciting days to discover the secrets of REAL SNOW.

Equipping climbing sites. Sport routes and more....
Pennavaire Valley & Ligurian Alps MARCH APRIL 2023

Imagining, cleaning, marking, and bolting a sport climbing route; setting up the opening of multi-pitch routes. Creativity on the rock.

A new way of understanding and interpreting climbing from an exploratory perspective and as a service to the climbing community

In Italy, the equipping of climbing sites is an activity in continuous evolution and very diversified depending on the contexts in which it takes place. In this course, we will mainly deal with the opening of single pitch or multipitch routes of a purely sport nature, leaving aside the opening of alpine routes in adventure terrain, which require a partially different approach. However, the different areas blend into each other and each can provide useful growth in other directions. Bolting is often carried out by amateur climbers, so not necessarily professionals. In 2017, the National College of Alpine Guides published its own Guidelines that seek to synthesize and standardize the experience of amateurs with that of professionals, with the primary aim of obtaining interesting routes, with a reasonable reduction of risks and preserving as much as possible the integrity of the climbing areas.

In addition to the Alpine Guides of Hike&Climb, the course will be co-taught by Matteo Gambaro, a high-level climber and federal sport climbing coach, route setter.

Participant requirements: climbers with experience and a desire to explore, both at the crag and on multi-pitch routes, even in adventure terrain

    • Duration: 4 days
    • Period: March - April 2023 and on request
    • Number of Participants: max 4 people
    • Cost: 600 euros per person

    PROGRAM

    - history and ethical aspects of route opening

    - identifying a site and studying its characteristics: environment, accessibility, geology, sport/alpine interest, constraints and limitations

    - reading the rock and identifying the possible line in relation to the characteristics of the crag/wall

    - styles and techniques of route opening; from below, from above, mixed, aid climbing techniques, rope work techniques, risk mitigation procedures, quick protections and alpine devices

    - materials for bolting: expansion bolts, connectors, glue-in bolts and related resins, drills and rotary hammers, essential accessories

    NOVEMBER 2022 - FEBRUARY 2023

    Advanced hiking course

    Advanced and winter hiking

Autumn and winter are very beautiful seasons for hiking: first the foliage, then the first snowfalls and the clear air that allows for sharp and wide panoramic views. However, the shorter days, the presence of ice and often sudden snow, and the low temperatures should suggest a different way of moving in the mountains.

Often moving in a winter environment brings us very close to mountaineering situations where it is important to know self-protection measures and risk management. Our course will allow you to tackle these terrains in a more conscious and creative way.

    COURSE - INTERNSHIP

     ROPE TEAM SELF-RESCUE

    Spring Rock Editions
    a) April 23 (dates to be determined)

    B) MAY 23 (DATES to be determined)

    other dates on request

Self-rescue is an exceptional circumstance, but one in which you must try to resolve the emergency with effective and as safe as possible maneuvers. These should be part of the skill set of every mountaineer and climber at any level. In this course we will address the most likely scenarios, first by recalling the safety chain (essential to ensure safety in an emergency), then by demonstrating the techniques and with direct participant exercises

    INDICATIVE PROGRAM:

    First day

    • REVIEW OF THE CONSTRUCTION, REINFORCEMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF THE BELAY

    • principles of rope team self-rescue: COOPERATIVE OR NON-COOPERATIVE PARTNER

    • HAULING SYSTEMS: ASSISTANCE, LIFTING (single and double)

    • rescue of the second on the rope and evacuation DOWNWARD

    second day

    • RESCUE OF THE LEADER AND DESCENT WITH THE INJURED PERSON
    • EMERGENCIES ON DOUBLE ROPE: OVERCOMING ROPE DAMAGE, ASCENDING THE ROPES

    • protected traverses

Period: 2 days: Dates to be defined (or on request)

Location: Finalese crags and Valle Pennavaire and surrounding areas

Editions also planned in Levante Ligure (Muzzerone - Riviera di Levante)

    REGISTRATION:

Cost per person: € 65.00 (minimum 3 people) per day (the days can be attended individually but full training – given the complexity of the procedures – requires attendance on both days)

REQUIRED TECHNICAL LEVEL: even basic knowledge of the essential belaying maneuvers for the leader (with either a semi-automatic device like a GRIGRI or a tube device), the second on the rope, abseiling and knots: Machard/Prusik – Italian hitch – clove hitch). In any case, these maneuvers will be reviewed at the beginning.

    SPRING COURSE of Multi-Pitch Routes

Finale, Toirano, Muzzerone, Val d'Aveto, Ligurian and Maritime Alps

The higher you climb, the farther you see... (Walter Bonatti)

The broad scope of climbing as well as one of the various gateways to alpine climbing or the so-called adventure terrain. In this course, we will focus in particular on how a rope team proceeds on a wall. The management of belays, the rope, descents, and unforeseen events, but always on equipped terrain, that is, with a sporting connotation. However, we will also begin to address the topic of integrating protections using nuts and friends (quick protections) in preparation for a subsequent course dedicated to adventure terrain.
